The Josep Carreras Research Institute receives the Severo Ochoa accreditation from the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities
At an event held yesterday in Madrid, Dr. Evarist Feliu, Acting Director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, received the accreditation as a Severo Ochoa centre of excellence from Diana Morant, Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities. The venue, at the CaixaForum building in Madrid, accreditations were also presented to the María de Maetzu units and all the centres and units accredited since 2018 were recognised.

The IJC representation, including Dr. Evarist Feliu and Ms. Leticia Chico, head of the Human Resources Unit, attended the Severo Ochoa and Maria de Maetzu accreditation presentation ceremony invited by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, chaired by Ms. Diana Morant and attended by Mr. Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Mr. Domènec Espriu, Director of the State Research Agency, Mr. Javier Solana, President of the Scientific Committee of the La Caixa Foundation and Ms. Isabel Fuentes, Director of CaixaForum Madrid.
At the event, the Minister praised the award-winning centres for their contribution “to the well-being of people and the development of a competitive and innovative industry” and highlighted “the profound transformative capacity” of these institutions to address the country's challenges through science. In her speech, the Minister pointed to “science, well-being and democracy” as three fundamental pillars to consolidate.
With this award, the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute is now recognised as one of the state's institutions of excellence and reinforces its founding objectives focused on research and innovation as key elements to advance in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational and basic aspects of leukaemia and other malignant haematological diseases.
