This Institution, established in 1988, is the Pan-European Academy of Sciences and Literature with the objective of fostering and disseminating the excellence in scholarships in the humanities, law, the economic, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine and all branches of natural and technological sciences anywhere in the world, for the public benefit and for the advancement of education at all ages.

Its members are international leaders’ experts in their field, including seventy-two Nobel Prizes in different disciplines. The Board of Trustees of the Academia Europaea has elected Dr. Manel Esteller as membership for his important contributions to Biomedical Sciences, particularly for his discoveries in cancer epigenetics that have made significant advances in the knowledge of this disease, application of new therapeutic targets and the development of new treatments against cancer.
