"Classical and novel opportunities to target the cell cycle in cancer"

Dr Marcos Malumbres

Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) and CIBERONC

The host of this seminar is Montse Sanchez-Cespedes.

Marcos Malumbres is ICREA Professor, director of the Systems Oncology Program and head of the Cancer Cell Cycle laboratory at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO). He is a elected member of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBO), and a visiting professor at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston since 2019. His work focuses on the mechanisms that control cell proliferation and how these regulatory systems are altered in tumor cells, with the ultimate goal of improving or finding efficacious therapies for cancer patients. Current effort in his laboratory focus on the mechanisms that result in resistance to standard-of-care cell cycle therapies in breast cancer and new therapeutic options for these resistant tumors as well as difficult-to-treat breast, lung or gynecological cancers. His laboratory is also interested in the mechanisms and consequences of genomic instability, as well as rare diseases derived from abnormal cell cycle regulation including spontaneous or germline aneuploidies.
