The host of this seminar is Maribel Parra.   Dr Almudena Ramiro leads the B Lymphocyte Biology Laboratory at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC), focusing on the biology of B lymphocytes and antibody-mediated immune responses in cardiovascular disease. After completing postdoctoral training in Michel Nussenzweig’s laboratory at The Rockefeller University (2001–2005), Dr Ramiro joined the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) as a Junior Group Leader in 2006, later moving to CNIC in 2012. Her research has advanced understanding of AID regulation and its role in antibody diversification, plasma cell differentiation, and lymphomagenesis. Expanding into cardiovascular immunology, her group has studied the antibody immune response in atherosclerosis and identified a new atherosclerosis-associated antigen that is a target for atheroprotective antibodies and defined the origin of autoreactive antibodies in this pathology. Dr Ramiro’s work has been recognized with the Banc Sabadell Award (2013), Caja Rural de Granada Award (2021), and election to the Academia Europaea (2022) and Henry Kunkel Society (2025), as well as Sarting ERC and Advanced ERC grants.
